Thousands of Catholics gathered in Chavez Ravine near Dodger Stadium to protest the Dodgers honoring, “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” an LBTQ+ group with a Community Hero Award. Catholics say the group mock nuns in their performances. Hundreds marched from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, on West Temple Street and Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles to the entrance of Dodger Stadium, on Friday, June 16, 2023. They then met thousands of other protestors to a “rally” style gathering at Lot 13 with many speakers leading in prayer and encouraging the group. At 5pm, thousands of the attendees began marching up Stadium Way, back to the entrance of Dodger stadium with signs, large crucifixes, banners, icons and flags, where they blocked the entrance until they could finish praying. It was completely peaceful. There was only one visible protestor who encouraged Catholics to support the “sisters” (a reference to the LGBTQ+ group) in their fundraising for AIDS research.
